HOW TO TIE KNOTS – WATER KNOT

The Water Knot (also known as the Tape Knot, Double Overhand Bend or Ring Bend) is a bend most commonly used by climbers to join two lengths of webbing (flat nylon tape), but also works great to join two lines. It is a strong knot that can be relied on to carry lots of pressure when it has a sufficient amount of tail and is easy to tie.

1. Make an Overhand Knot in line A.

2. Come in with line B and follow line A, starting at the tail, to create a second overhand knot.

3. Dress the knot by pulling either side of the knot in opposite directions.

BEWARE! Make sure you pick a side (either the top or the bottom) of line A to follow along and never allow the ropes to cross by switching sides. If you go in from the top (as pictured) you should come out at the top. If you go in from the bottom you should come out at the bottom. Crossing the ropes during tying or dressing of the knot will make it weak and unreliable. It could slip, jam or suddenly “pop” into it’s correct shape.
